The Sennen trip was a huge success, with a good attendance from the club and some excellent routes in the bag. Routes of note were: Commando Ridge (V Diff), Black Slab (Diff), and Nameless (V Severe) at Bosigran Main Cliff. These are classic, traditional, adventure routes in a fantastic setting of imposing sea cliffs. Commando Ridge was first climbed in 1902 (then, and sometimes still, called Bosigran Ridge) by a husband and wife team Mr & Mrs Romanis.
The route proved to be an enjoyable excursion with a good measure of technical interest, exposure and duration. After a long decent involving some down climbing, the foot of the ridge is gained and the realisation of what one has let oneself in for is enough to make you drop your gear into the sea (Shane!). The first pitch is exactly vertical and looks very impressive, but the holds are enormous and positive. Then the ridge is gained, and the V Diff grade is sustained for another six pitches culminating in a short pitch of Hard Severe which adds a little spice. A few hours were whiled away since leaving the bags at the top of the route, so the pre-placed Cornish pasties were most appreciated!
