The ‘Lorna Doone’ Challenge is an annual event that involves a superb walk through the stunning scenery of Exmoor; England’s only National Park with a coastline. The challenge is organised by Fire and Ice Mountaineering Club, and all proceeds are donated to the Firefighter’s Charity.
The route starts on the breathtaking cliffs of the rugged North Devon coast before moving inland, through ‘Doone Country’, out onto high open moorland and finishes in spectacular style through the stunning East Lyn River valley. Along its way, the route passes the Foreland point lighthouse, the ancient spring at Sisters Fountain, the spectacular waterfalls at Watersmeet and many of the sites made famous by R.D. Blackmoor’s classic novel Lorna Doone. There are 12 and 24 mile options.
The challenge is open to both individual and team entries (under 18s can enter if they are accompanied by an adult), dogs are also welcome. To enter, simply fill in the application form and send to the address at the bottom of the form.
